FAQ

Our Frequently Asked Questions from our customers and community!

I've never used gel polish before - is it tricky?

Anyone can apply Green Flash™, including complete beginners!

If you know how to use regular nail polish you can use Green Flash™: you apply the base coat, colour and top coat in exactly the same way. The only difference is that you cure your nails under the lamp!

If you know how to use gel polish, there are a few points to note. Applying Green Flash™ is more like applying regular nail polish: there's no need to remove oil first and the polish is not buildable like gel polish, so you need to get it right from the start.

We recommend that you treat it like regular nail polish that has to be dried under a lamp!

Is Green Flash™ compatible with other brands?

Unfortunately not, each formula is unique and made from different ingredients. Our Green Flash™ products should always be used with other Green Flash™ products to ensure the best results. You will need (at least):

  • One Green Flash™ base coat
  • One Green Flash™ colour
  • One Green Flash™ top coat
  • An LED lamp with an output of at least 24W

For effective removal, we highly recommend using Green Flash™ plant-based Nail Polish Remover and the accompanying nail clips.

Points to note:
Using a Green Flash™ colour with a base coat and top coat from another gel/regular nail polish brand will not work.
Using a Green Flash™ base coat with a colour and top coat from another gel/regular nail polish brand will not work. etc.

What is the difference between a traditional gel polish and Green Flash™?

The "peel-off" removal: it can be removed at home without acetone, rubbing or filing it off!

It dries instantly: using an LED lamp with an output of at least 24W at a frequency that is less harmful to nails than UV lamps!

Up to 84% plant-based ingredients that are also vegan and non-toxic (really)!

Lasts up to 10 days: according to a survey, our customers like having the option of removing their polish at home and changing their colour after 10 days, rather than letting their nails grow for a month and then returning to the salon!

What is the difference between a regular nail polish and Green Flash™?

The "peel-off" removal: it can be removed at home without acetone, rubbing or filing it off!

Dries instantly under an LED lamp: no more smears while it dries!

Up to 84% plant-based ingredients that are also vegan and non-toxic (really)!

Staying power for 10 days!

Can using Green Flash™ cause allergies?

Green Flash™ meets European standards and does not contain any sensitising substances like the monomers and methyl acrylate found in many traditional gel polishes. Many customers have testified that they have been able to use our products safely, even if they were allergic to other types of gel polish. However, allergic reactions are not specifically related to chemical ingredients, so we cannot guarantee that you won't have a reaction to another ingredient, even a natural one. If this does happen, please feel free to contact us 🌸

You'll find more information in our blog about allergies.

FAQs

What is the alternative to UV light for gel nails? ›

Thankfully, there are alternative ways to cure gel polish with less UV exposure. While only an LED lamp can cure your polish as quickly and effectively as a UV light, using a non-UV gel polish, applying a drying agent, or soaking your nails in ice water could work as well.

Can you dry regular nail polish with a LED light? ›

In short, an LED lamp or UV lamp will not work on regular polish. This is because the formulation is entirely different; gel polish contains a polymer that needs to be 'cured' by an LED lamp or UV lamp to become rigid. Regular nail polish needs to be 'air-dried'.

What is non gel nail polish called? ›

We all know regular nail polish, which is also known as normal nail polish, or nail varnish.

Is gel polish bad for your nails? ›

Although gel manicures can be beautiful and long-lasting, they can be tough on nails. Gel manicures can cause nail brittleness, peeling and cracking, and repeated use can increase the risk for skin cancer and premature skin aging on the hands.

Which is better LED or UV light for gel nails? ›

The LED bulb is able to cure gel polish dry in half the time needed vs. UV bulbs. Also, LED lamps don't generate heat in the way that UV lamps do, and the LED bulb never needs to be replaced.

Is there an alternative to gel nail polish? ›

A nail wrap or sticker will give you the same long-lasting effect as gel—minus all the removal hassle. Nail wraps and stickers are applied on top of the nail and secured down without any UV light curing. To remove them, simply use your usual acetone polish remover until the wrap is gone.

Why do my nails burn under LED light? ›

However, if the UV intensity is too high, this can cause excess heat that can become intense, leading to burning sensations. Using the correct nail lamp recommended by the UV gel manufacturer and proper positioning of the hands inside the lamp, and avoiding overly thick applications.

Do nail salons use LED or UV lights? ›

Lamps that emit ultraviolet (UV) radiation are standard in some nail salons to speed-dry regular manicures and to set gel manicures. These lamps can be called UV or LED lamps and both emit UV radiation, predominantly UVA rays which have been linked to increased risk of skin cancer.

How long to cure nails under a LED lamp? ›

To cure gel nails, you're going to need a UV LED curing lamp, typically the curing time for gel nails is around 30 seconds. However, some products and brands may need a bit longer. If you're looking for a new UV LED lamp to cure your clients' nails manicures, then we recommend the Spectra Curing Unit by Bio Sculpture.

What is the new nail technique better than gel? ›

Polygel nails are stronger than gel nails and more flexible than acrylic nails, which makes them less likely to chip or break. “If someone is hard on their hands, it bounces back more easily instead of cracking,” says Kandalec.

What is the healthiest nail option? ›

Choose soak-off gel nails instead of acrylic nails.

While gel nails can cause nail brittleness, peeling, and cracking, they're more flexible than acrylic nails. This means your own nails are less likely to crack. You'll want to ask for gel nails that soak off rather than ones that must be filed off.

How to get jelly nails without gel? ›

Remove the top of your clear polish and set aside, then position the brush of your pigmented polish over the top of your clear polish bottle; add a sizable drop of color into the clear bottle. Shake it up, and voila, you've got your own jelly polish.

Why are my nails so thin after gel? ›

Paper-thin nails after acrylics are another common issue. Gel and acrylics cause the nails to lose moisture and become brittle, flaky and peeling. This can also be caused by improperly peeling the gel and removing the nail plate.

How often should you take a break from gel nails? ›

Some beauty professionals also generally suggest pausing after you've had two or three gel manicures in a row. This hiatus can last a week or more, based on the health of your nails. One indicator that you need to take a break is when you start to notice symptoms like nail peeling, white patches, or splitting.

How to cure gel nails without a UV light? ›

Take an Ice Bath

Allow your nails to dry for five to 10 minutes after applying the last coat of gel, then ice your nails. Fill a bowl with cool water and a few ice cubes. Place your nails into the ice bath, making sure the water completely covers your nails. Keep your nails in the water for three to four minutes.

Can you make an UV light with your phone? ›

With a black light, you can see fluorescence, the radiating glow emitted by certain substances when exposed to ultraviolet light. While no current smartphone is technically capable of emitting UV light, you can mimic the effect of a black light using your phone's LED flash, a few markers, and some transparent tape.

What is similar to an UV light? ›

To put it simply, black light is a type of ultraviolet light – specifically, ultraviolet A (UVA) light, where it emits ultraviolet radiation in the UVA band. These rays are low-energy and long-wavelength and are the least harmful as far as ultraviolet radiation is concerned.

Can I use a regular LED lamp to cure gel nails? ›

UV and LED lamps are an effective way to cure gel nail polish, so it comes down to personal preference. Generally speaking, LED lamps cure faster than UV lamps and don't produce as much heat, which can benefit people with sensitive skin or nails.
