Portfolio Recovery send me letter stating this.....**bleep** happened!! (2025)

"Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC has concluded its investigation of your dispute and is closing your account. PRA, LLC filed a Universal Data Form electronicaly requesting that the three major credit reporting agencies delete PRA, LLC's tradeline for this account on your credit reports."

So I recived a letter stating this in the mail the other day. I disputed a debt with them about 3 months ago and heard nothing back. Then I get this letter. It's off all of my credit reports, all the info from the originl creditor are gone. What the heck just happened!

I'm worried they may reopen the case at a later date or sell the debt to another collector or debt buyer. I want to call to make sure this is over but don't want to screw up a good thing.

Does anyone know what happened? Maybe can shed some light on this? Maybe this happened to you? Did you ever hear from them or anotehr collector again?

Welcome to the forums. Portfolio is complying with fines from the cfpb for disputes. If they do not have the back up documentation to prove the debt, they must close it. I actually got a zombie debt closed via cfpb prior to the ruling. As part of the settlement, they can not sell the debt.

You our are good to go. If you want to hurry the process, dispute debt as not valid, closed, other reasons listed via the credit reporting agencies. Takes 30 days or less, should be removed. Or you can wait. Ex tends to be the fastest, TU and EQ take longer.

Your credit reporting issues are likely resolved, but you still have an allegation floating about of an unpaid, delinquent debt.

Lack of verification in response to your dispute is not the same as a positive finding that the debt is not valid.

Unless they send you a form 1099c cancelling the debt, it still exists.

Hopefully, you wont have a future app for credit that requests disclosure of any unpaid, delinquent debt.
